I created a collection of ephemera based on the classic, Little Women, in part because of my love for this story since I was a child, but primarily because I was excited to take a deep dive into the 19th century and all the typographic lessons it had to offer. I created three artifacts: a book cover complete with endpaper and title page, a dance card for the Valentine’s Day Ball Meg attends, and finally a copy of “The Pickwick Pages” filled with the stories the March sisters created for this pretend newspaper. I loved being able to immerse myself in this project, from the visual research to the modern recreations of 19th century typefaces, and of course, the material process of creating my three artifacts.
